Verne Q. Powell worked for the Wm. S. Haynes Co. for approximately 12 years (1915 - 1927). In 1927 he started his own company when his offer to purchase the company from Haynes was rejected. He died in 1968, and the company was continued by family and was only recently sold.

* This number was provided by Chuck Stevens. He said that Powell commented that they had built s/n 10000 slightly out of the serial number sequence so that it would be available at the NFA convention in 1996. It is a platinum flute.
